HANDS FREE PHONES ADD TO ROAD CONGESTION

There have been fresh calls to ban employees from using hands-free phones while driving following new research from the US that reveals chatting drivers could increase traffic congestion.

The research found that motorists talking on mobile phones while driving on dual carriageways and motorways were slower and less likely to overtake.

Dave Strayer, a psychology professor at the University of Utah, explained that the average person’s commute is longer because of the person who is on the phone in front of them.

Joel Cooper, a doctoral student in psychology, added that if a person talks on the phone while driving, it’s going to take them longer to get from A to B, and slows down everybody else on the road.

The findings back previous research that using a hands-free phone is as dangerous while driving as using a hand-held device because it is the conversation itself that is the major distraction.

Earlier studies also found that mobile phone users followed at greater distances, were slower to brake and to regain speed after braking.

Strayer went on to say that it was important to show how mobile phone use affects traffic.

He added that when people have tried to do cost-benefit analyses on whether mobile phones should be regulated, they don’t factor in the cost associated with increased commuting times, excess fuel used by stop-and-go traffic and increased air pollution.

USEFUL TIPS
Sometimes new cars will be delivered on a transporter, other times it may be driven. Either way, always check the mileage on delivery. Write the mileage on the delivery sheet and keep a copy. At the end of contract, you can then subtract these miles from any excess mileage you may have run.

Extras?
 
Most extras fitted to cars don't help the residual value. Metallic paint, leather and air conditioning actually do. Most cars  we supply come with air conditioning and metallic paint as standard.  So if you ask for quote to include extras, it will mean you pay the whole cost of the extra divided by the number of rentals.

If you're going to pay for an extra in full, you might as well own it. Why not just go out and buy it separately? If you do put extras on afterwards like a nice set of alloys make sure you take them off at the end of the contract.
If you see the car you want,make sure you order it
Contract hire means you are only renting the car So you are not stuck with it forever. So you have no real risk at disposal time. If you see  good bargain, don't think too long. Often the bargain deals are only available for 1 or 2 days at a time.
When they have gone they have gone.

Remember that you have to pass finance before I can reserve you a car, so allow time for that!

Service Contract?
Most Burnside Cars  are on 2 year contracts so you should only need an oil and filter service You can pay this service yourself,  Some service intervals are now at 18,000 miles! You can have this small service done at any VAT registered garage,you must use manufacturers genuine parts. Your car is fully covered by the manufacturer warranty, use the car manufacturers franchise dealer for this, and you get manufacturer's AA/RAC type cover in the warranty terms

Some people get emotional about their car, but try to look at your car as a simple consumer purchase. Because these cars are so very, very cheap, often the dealer makes just a tiny profit. Almost like handling fee. Me too I work on volume of cars delivered.
