WHAT IS ENGINE RE-MAPPING???
And How is it done?
Most engines are controlled by an onboard computer (ECU), this communicates many things back to the car but importantly for us it dictates how your vehicle drives. We are able to modify the way in which this communication happens to open the true potential without any performances compromises
90% of vehicles from 1999> are programmed remotely through the diagnostic port (ODB).
The ECU is untouched and there is no replacement chip, meaning there is greatly reduced risk of any damage during the procedure.
A Diagnostic check is always carried out before we start programming the car.
The modified file is then load on to the vehicle
The vehicle is then road tested to make sure everything is operating as it should be
A final diagnostic check is then done to give the all clear for any fault codes or conflictions before handover
Frequently asked questions...
Where is it done?
The re-mapping process is completely mobile meaning that we can re-map your vehicle at home or at work. Alternatively you can bring your vehicle to a Black Code workshop where you will be well looked after.
How long will it take?
The team of Black Code Technicians can be very flexible and work around your availability with the majority of re-maps taking approximately 2 hours from start to finish. However, our technicians aim to minimise the downtime of the vehicle and may have other options available to reduce this time even further.
Is re-mapping the same as chipping?
Chipping is an older version of what re-mapping is today, which involved the ECU being physically opened and replacing the main microchip with a modified microchip. Our method means that there is no need to open the ECU, which significantly reduces the risk of damage or failure.
Will a Black Code re-map shorten an engines life expectancy?
No; we optimise the maps within the ECU without exceeding the limits of the vehicles engine.
Can the original settings be re-installed?
Black Code always backup the original file settings on our database so the original file settings can can always be uploaded back onto the vehicle.
Are there any risks involved with re mapping a vehicle?
The process that we follow has been tried and tested and minimises the risk involved.
Every Black Code technician has been trained to the highest standard.
Can a Black Code re-map be detected by a dealer servicing the vehicle?
No. The dealer cannot determine that the ECU has been modified with their equipment, our software is designed to be none detectable.
